Clair Hickson DipCABT, CAPBT, PDTI - Founder of Talk to the Paw
Having been fascinated by dogs as a child, I have been training dogs for over 10 years. My first spark of interest in behaviour began in 1997 when I adopted my first rescue dog, Jake. Jake had many problems and I travelled around many places and people trying to find help for him. As I did so, I became engrossed in learning about why he behaved the way he did. After Jake died I decided to channel my grief into studying canine psychology. I spent 3 years studying to advanced level through the Animal Care College before embarking on my COAPE Diploma. I was very proud to achieve a distinction under the tutorage of Professor Peter Neville.
Having completed this training I am keen to extend my knowledge and continue learning. I regularly attend conferences and seminars. These include
- Ian Dunbar
- John Rogerson
- Nicole Wilde
- Barbara Sykes
- Various APBC seminars
- Wolf behaviour
- Pet Dog Training Instructors Course
My passion lies in behaviour but also in puppies. I firmly believe in teaching a dog when young and teaching owners how to read their dogs so you can enjoy your dog for life. My aim is to prevent behaviour problems so that puppies do not need to see me as adults!!
I am currently working my own dog at competition obedience, a very difficult but addictive sport.
